- If your home is constructed with brick or stone, you likely have a bit more leeway when choosing a shingle color. These materials are more “permanent” than paintable siding. You will probably want to be more conservative in your choice if you plan to change your home’s appearance.
- Darker shingles tend to keep your home warmer by approximately 10-15 degrees than light shingles in the same weather conditions. Dark colored shingles will absorb light and convert it to heat.
The color shingle you choose could affect your home’s resale value. It’s best to err on the side of something more conservative rather than a brighter color or one with a higher contrast if you may sell your home in the next 15-20 years (average lifetime of a new roof).
